We produce and distribute various types of sugar in Africa, both for the local consumers and for agro-industrial companies. Somdia controls the entire production process, from growing sugar cane to industrial processing and distribution.

We also pay attention to adapt the cultivation itinerary and the choice of sugar cane varieties to the soil and climate specific to each country. The aim is to ensure the quality and sustainability of our production. All our sugar is 100% cane sugar and all the sugar refined by our teams is produced from local plantations. Somdia accounts for a large proportion of national sugar production in the countries where it operates.

We ensure strict compliance with all current international food safety standards, and most of our sites are FSSC 22000 certified. We have integrated the BONSUCRO approach, which is currently being rolled out across all our operations. In this way, we are committed to meeting the requirements of sustainability and respect for human rights, both within our perimeter and throughout our supply chain.

Distillery

With a view to continuing its industrial investment and diversifying its activities, Somdia Group will inaugurate its first distillery in the second half of 2024.

Located in the Congo, the plant will produce alcohol from the molasses produced by refining sugar from sugar cane. The distillery will be able to produce 50,000 litres of extra neutral alcohol a day to meet the needs of local manufacturers.

This is a first one implemented in Congo and we are proud to be contributing to the development of this new activity in the country. It’s also a way of giving a second life to the by-products of our industrial activity, by committing ourselves to recycling and recovering waste, with a view to “zero waste production”.
