From January 19 to 23, a training workshop dedicated to sugarcane variety selection was held at the SUCAF Côte d’Ivoire site, bringing together several of our sugar subsidiaries: SUCAF Côte d’Ivoire, Saris Congo, and Compagnie Sucrière du Tchad (CST).
Led by Thomas Dumont, head of the sugarcane variety selection program at the ERCANE Sugarcane Research and Development Center, the aim of this training was to work collectively on the process of selecting sugarcane varieties from hybrid seeds, while enabling each subsidiary to assess its practices and identify areas for improvement.

Throughout the week, the wealth of experience shared between subsidiaries was a real highlight of the workshop. The training sessions, supplemented by field visits to the various stages of the selection process, encouraged the sharing of practices and understanding of local specificities.
This first phase of the training program has enabled each subsidiary to identify specific areas for improvement, which will be implemented with the support of ERCANE teams through a dedicated action plan.
This is a fine example of the power of inter-subsidiary collaboration in promoting agronomic performance and sustainable development at our sugar subsidiaries.
