Growing together, training the talents of tomorrow
What do civil engineering, accountancy and mechanics have in common? These disciplines are all part of the training programme created in 2013 by SOSUCAM to help young people find employment. The initiative is aimed at candidates from villages close to the sugar company in central Cameroon. Around 70 men and women are in training at any one time.
The most talented of them are sometimes taken on before the end of their contract, if a position becomes available. Electricity, manufacturing, driving, stock management… The young people acquire invaluable skills as the months go by. At the end of their training, they receive a certificate signed by the departmental delegate from the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training, as well as the company’s managing director. Thanks to this transfer, SOSUCAM can count on qualified local technicians. This is an effective way of boosting the employability of young people in the region. Since 2013, more than 180 apprentices have been trained, and more than fifty of them work for the sugar factory – including in positions of responsibility.
